These models already use the data rate of the SATA III version practically completely. Since the SSDs will probably achieve even faster transfer rates in the future, the development of new, even faster interfaces is essential. The new SATA EXPRESS interface with SATA revision 3.2 was introduced back in 2012. It is referred to as SATAe for short. This new interface enables much higher transfer rates, these can even reach up to 16 GB per second. This interface is of no interest for conventional HDD hard drives, as they are not able to achieve these rates at all. However, such an interface can be very useful for an SSD. They can also be connected to another SATA interface, but then they cannot deliver the full transfer rate. An SSD works much more effectively on a SATA EXPRESS interface. Connected with a corresponding SATA SSD cable, the data carrier will work much faster.

Mini-SATA (mSATA) and Micro-SATA


There are a few other cables that have been specially designed for connecting particularly small storage media. The m-SATA cables responsible for this are used in some laptops. They are also available in the first, second, and third versions and also have the same transfer rate. For mSATA to be used, the appropriate connection must of course be available. Since SATA and mSATA are technologically largely identical, it can also be a conventional SATA connection. Conventional SATA cables for installation inside the computer are up to one meter long, eSATA cables up to two meters.
